Iraq: Babies suffering from malnutrition in Qayyarah

Since March, MSF has treated more than 300 babies for malnutrition in Qayyara, Iraq, most of whom are under 6 months old.

Many of the infants were taken here by their families who fled from the besieged part of West Mosul.

In this crisis, mothers are sometimes unable to breast feed due to trauma and living conditions in Mosul, and there is a lack of formula milk available.

In some cases, mothers resorted to filling their babies` bottles with black tea or sugary water, instead of milk. Many of the infants also suffer from other illnesses after their ordeals, but access to healthcare is extremely limited in Mosul.
