The Central Mediterranean has been emptied of rescue boats, the result of a sustained campaign to criminalize NGOs trying to save lives at European borders. Even as we hear the news of fatal shipwrecks, Sea-Watch 4 and our MSF team onboard remains trapped in the port of Palermo, unable to resume life-saving operations.
